Around 60 workers from across the UK gathered in Manchester to explore how their careers and sharing the good news of Jesus were made to go together.
Work+Go Manchester 2023 combined plenary sessions looking at the value of work in God’s world and with seminars exploring the practicalities of working out faith in different vocations such as medicine, coding, art and the charity sector.
Building on the success of last year’s event, the first of its kind in the UK, Work+Go 2023 highlighted the potential for sharing Jesus across cultures at work, overseas and in increasingly diverse workplaces in the UK. One attendee, a director in a multinational company, commented at lunchtime that the event had already shown them ‘there is an endless amount God can do in us and through us in our work.’
'A new era of missions'
Work+Go was organised by OMF UK and brought together 16 local and international speakers including Sarah Hunter, a former director of global strategy at GlaxoSmithKline, Daniel Ghinn, founder of Worship Works, an organisation that equips Christians to put their faith to work in their careers, and Andrew Scott, President and CEO of OM USA. Andrew’s closing session gave a challenging call for a new era of missions that uses the global marketplace for gospel growth, highlighting the opportunity for delegates to use their careers in places where Christ is least known to point people to the Lord.
Appropriately the event ended with the formal launch of the Work+Go Pathway, a new way to equip and send marketplace workers to do that, and the commissioning of the first marketplace worker to be sent through the Pathway. They should be starting their international role through OMF UK and the Work+Go Pathway in early 2024.
