Over 400 women gathered for the sold-out annual Dublin Women’s Convention in late October.
Now in its 14th year, the convention is organised by a committee of women from churches within the Dublin Gospel Partnership. Women from all across the Republic of Ireland attended the convention to hear Jen Wilkin, US author and Bible-teacher, deliver three sessions on the attributes of God under the theme of ‘Behold our God, Worshipping Rightly Through Reverence and Imitation’.
The title of the first session of the day was ‘A Woman Who Fears the Lord’. It focused on reorienting our Bible reading so we open the Scriptures ready for a daily dose of awe, keeping in mind who God is first, before seeing what the Bible says about ourselves.
The theme of session two was ‘None Like Him: Beholding God, Fearful and Wonderful’ and covered the non-communicable attributes of God from Psalm 139. Continuing on from session one we focused on what the Psalm says about God, not us, and looked at the attributes of God which are only true of Him. The final session, ‘In His Image: Trading Rivalry for Reflection’, discussed the communicable attributes that are true of God and can also be true of us – for example, holy, loving and good.
We were also inspired throughout the convention as women from evangelical churches across Dublin were interviewed on the attribute of God that has meant the most in their lives. A Q&A session with Jen completed the day, where she shared wisdom on a range of topics in her humorous and engaging style. The event concluded having achieved the aim that Jen had stated at the start of the day, which is that we would leave the convention with a higher view of God than when we arrived.
