Busy? Try ‘Bible College in a Box’

Lansdowne Church’s School for Discipleship in Bournemouth is launching a new resource to provide a flexible, accessible theology course to those who might not be able to commit to formal, in-person study.

The ‘Bible College in a Box’ contains core textbooks and relevant study material from the School for Discipleship’s existing training programme, but is a self-led programme that can be completed at the individual’s own pace – whether over a year or longer.

The School for Discipleship just celebrated the inaugural year of its discipleship training programme which was attended by 20 people from eight different churches.

This course is suitable for church interns and runs for three ten-week terms across the year. However the programme does involve in-person study, with a weekly Wednesday teaching course for students to attend.

“It’s been a great year,” said programme director Chris Sinkinson, noting that the widespread interest the course has received inspired the creation of Bible College in a Box.

Bible College in a Box offers remote, independent study and ideally participants will follow along with the in-person course, said Sinkinson, adding that select video content from the Wednesday sessions will be released online starting September to supplement the study materials. That way, he explained, participants will be connected to the in-person course and may even be able to form a local ‘hub’ with other participants from their church.

“My interest is areas that are not well-served by other programmes,” Sinkinson said, explaining that Bible College in a Box is a good option for those who don’t have the funds or time for traditional theology training.
