50 years of housing for ex-missionaries

This year, the Evangelical Housing Association (EHA) is celebrating 50 years of providing homes for retired gospel workers.

Launched in 1976, EHA supports ex-pastors and missionaries who have served in the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC), Grace Baptist Association (GBA), and the Evangelical Fellowship of Congregational Churches (EFCC).

By purchasing properties in partnership with retirees, EHA can offer affordable rent and security to individuals and couples who otherwise would struggle to find an appropriate living situation in retirement.

Currently, EHA has more than 20 properties across England and Wales, some of which have been homes to tenants for more than two decades.

“The main encouragement is to see the gratitude expressed by many, if not all, [of] our tenants over the years for the provision of affordable accommodation with security of tenure,” said Roy Saint, Chair of EHA. “In one sense it could be said that EHA has been the means of providing the Lord's reward for faithful service to many pastors and missionaries.”

As EHA looks to the future, the organisation’s first priority it to continue to provide accommodation for its existing tenants, Saint explained. “This is an ongoing, long-term commitment,” he said.

EHA is wholly managed by volunteers and is currently looking for individuals to support the work of the ministry. To find out more or to get in touch, visit evangelicalhousingassociation.org.uk/eha/.
