Bible sales are up & ESV is best-selling

Crossway’s ESV was the best-selling translation of the Bible in the UK last year, according to Christian publisher SPCK Group.

And Bible sales are up overall, reaching the highest level recorded, research shows.

“We are seeing more and more people – Gen Z included – investigating the Bible for themselves and seeking to draw their own conclusions rather than relying on the status quo,” SPCK Group’s Chief Executive Sam Richardson told the Daily Mail.

In 2025, total sales hit £6.3 million, an increase of 134% in value since pre-pandemic levels and a 106% increase in volume. In the last year alone, the number of Bibles sold increased by more than a quarter.

This boom in Bible-buying, which is also reflected in the US (where sales were up more than 10% last year over 2024), is closely aligned with the growing interest in Christianity from young adults in their late teens to twenties, Richardson noted.

This appears to match the growing trend towards church attendance in the UK as published by the Bible Society in its recent “Quiet Revival” report, which singled out young people as the group with the largest increase in church attendance. The ESV has been especially popular with Evangelicals.
