The recent Catalyst theology conference saw 330 delegates fed richly by the Bible’s witness to the person and work of Christ.
Hosted at IPC Ealing in west London, this annual three-day event drew a variety of church elders and members of all ages and stages, and from a variety of church backgrounds (far wider than just presbyterian).
Scottish theologian Sinclair Ferguson helped us to “see” Christ from Hebrews 2, while author Christopher Ash showed how the Psalms shaped the inner life of Jesus the man.
Minister Simon Arscott challenged us to find Christ in those places where He is promised to us:
- In preaching (even in a digital land)
- At the Lord’s table (we are offered the whole Christ)
- On the Lord’s Day (the answer to our restlessness).
These talks would be well worth a listen online. They were a great encouragement to search and obey Scriptures that in practice we often neglect.
Each day concluded with American pastor Jason Helopoulos exhorting Christ’s ministers to cultivate three vital antidotes to pastoral failure: thankfulness, friendships (which struck a real note with many) and love for Jesus.
As ever, the singing was hearty and the fellowship warm. A sell-out extra meeting saw the ever-popular hog roast and panel discussion, chewing over the person and work of Christ in pastoral ministry.
