£1.5 billion will be set aside for 75 communities across the UK. These include: Wrexham in Wales; Dumfries in Scotland; and Torquay in England.
The Plan for Neighbourhoods fund is to form part of the government’s community cohesion strategy from spring 2026.
The government hopes, among other things, to produce more areas with “stronger social capital” to encourage “higher educational attainment, lower crime and faster economic growth".
The Evangelical Alliance (EA) says it will continue to speak positively about the role of local churches in communities, as well encourage ministers and politicians to meet with EA members.
EA is urging churches and organisations in these 75 places to write to local authorities, to explain how their ministries will help the government regenerate and improve these areas.
