The UK’s “quiet revival” is a God-given opportunity for Christian evangelism.
For the Soldiers’ and Aviators’ Scripture Readers Association (SASRA), this means sharing the gospel in the military with more troops and their families, in barracks and stations that are inaccessible to churches.
So, led by the Spirit, through the Word of God, we at SASRA have recruited more Scripture Readers: in September 2023, we employed 13. Today we have 21, with more planned.
Since 1838, SASRA has proclaimed Christ and discipled Christians in the military, providing spiritual welfare, pastoral care and much more.
Our Readers are all veterans, back in uniform, serving on bases around the UK and abroad. Their shared background with today’s soldiers and aviators opens doors for meaningful conversations about Christ and the Bible.
Patrick's story
SASRA’s role in the quiet revival is to grow more military disciples, with a select few like Patrick becoming Scripture Readers themselves.
During Patrick’s basic military training, he met and chatted with a seasoned Scripture Reader, who gave him a Bible.
A second Reader at Sennybridge in Wales was the next link in the chain, talking and giving him a Christian book to read.
During Patrick’s next training period at Bordon, another Reader spent time one-to-one discovering the Bible with him.
Three Spirit-led Readers in three locations were used to bring Patrick to the point where he placed his trust in Christ.
With SASRA’s support and encouragement, Patrick grew in his faith, discipling others during his time in the Army.
Today, inspired by faithful Readers, Patrick is a fully trained and qualified Scripture Reader, serving and sharing the gospel on Salisbury Plain.
