On August 14, the violence of the Muslim Brotherhood targeted the Christian community in Egypt (churches and property owned by Christians) as well as police stations.
Many churches and church premises were attacked and set on fire, many Christian shops were broken into and looted. It was a reaction against the attempts of the Egyptian military to end the sit-ins and other public demonstrations ongoing in Cairo for six weeks. Hundreds were killed and thousands injured in attacks all across the country.
The Christian community has become the target for much of the anger from supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi. In cities from north to south, churches, schools, monasteries, and shops belonging to Christians have been attacked, many looted and set on fire.
In spite of what has happened to Christians, the church in Egypt has behaved with sincerity and faithfulness to their God and in deep loyalty to their country.
Please pray for Egypt and the Christians of Egypt. Pray especially that there is no more bloodshed. Emergency relief is most important at this stage.
Relief funds
The Arabic Community Church of Hove tried to do some relief in Egypt by giving 17 families some money, and giving 25 families mattresses and beds. Moreover, we established small projects to generate money for three of them. The church would like to enlarge its project, which is called ‘God works in Egypt’.
