Playmobil announced on 11 February that
some 34,000 of their new figurine of the
16th-century Protestant reformer Martin
Luther had sold within 72 hours of being
released to mark the 500th anniversary of
the publication of Luther’s 95 Theses.
Most of
these
sales came
from within
Germany, with only 5% of the toys selling to
international buyers. Although Playmobil
has attempted
to meet
this unexpected
demand, the new batch from its Maltese factory will not be ready until the end of April.
