A married woman was abducted at gunpoint and forced into marriage to a Muslim man, it was reported in mid-March.
Saima Iqbal’s husband Naveed Iqbal reported the incident as soon as it happened, but the police collaborated with the kidnappers and did not file a report on the incident until a week later. The police only filed the First Information Report (FIR) when Naveed and his children threatened to set themselves on fire in protest.
As a result, the police recovered Saima from her kidnapper. But instead of her being taken for a medical examination, the police listened to the version of the story from her abductors. They stated that she had accepted Islam and had had a Muslim wedding.
Her husband believes that the documents have all been fabricated and he has challenged them in court. The family are continuing to receive threats from the abductors that they will kill the family if they do not withdraw the case. Saima has torture marks on her face and body. Naveed has gone into hiding due to the threats made against him. He says that a Shar’ia court has told him that this behaviour is not allowed within Islam.
