In April a campaign was launched which aims to criminalise the purchasing of sex.
In light of the fact that the Netherlands has some of the most liberal prostitution laws anywhere in the world, the ‘I am priceless’ campaign would be a major development.
A spokesperson for CARE said: ‘There is clearly strong support for a new approach in the Netherlands towards prostitution, especially among well-informed young people.
‘Criminalising the purchase of sex has been proven to be effective at reducing demand, making the country less attractive to human traffickers.’
A similar campaign took place in Northern Ireland which successfully produced a change in the law in 2015 regarding the purchasing of sex. There is a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a fine of £1,000 for offenders. The rest of the UK does not have this law.
