A Christian charity working with children with HIV in South Africa is suffering an acute short-age of funds, it was reported in December.
Morning Star Children’s Centre has been caring for children of all ages for more than 20 years in Welcome, a poor area of the Free State. It has seen a loss of funds due to an account change which saw donors lost due to their being untraceable, or people reviewing their giving.
Despite the exchange rate with the rand being good, the cost of living has spiralled in South Africa. The charity has just over one month left in its reserves despite heavy cost-cutting. Fuel and electricity support given to people linked to the centre, has been cut. Food parcels given out to families and even some medication has been scaled back. School fees and transport costs look likely to be slashed for January. This will result in children having to walk long distances on dangerous routes to school each day. In a statement to supporters, the charity said it was praying for a miracle and still trusting that God would provide.
