The pastor of a church in eastern Uganda received threatening messages from Muslim villagers in February.
The messages said the church would be destroyed because Muslims were converting to Christ. His congregation is dwindling as members have stopped attending services out of fear of an Islamist attack.
A large family is staying at the church site after Islamist threats forced them to flee their home. The mother of the family became a Christian after she sought help for her troubled heart.
The pastor said that it is only Isa [Jesus] who can heal a troubled heart. ‘The conviction was so strong that I could not resist. The pastor then prayed for my deliverance. After prayers, my heart was very peaceful,’ she said.
Ten more saved
She did not tell her family about her faith for three months. She prayed for her family and began telling her youngest children about Christ’s atoning death and resurrection, and they accepted Christ as Lord and Saviour a month later. After they were saved, those children told the older ones. All nine were saved. Then she began talking to her husband. He hit her.
‘I continued praying and sharing Jesus with him. After two months Jesus appeared to my husband in a vision, which led to his conversion to the Christian faith. He then stopped attending the prayers at mosque.’
When one of the children told their grandfather about their faith, his response and that of the mosque leaders led the family to seek refuge in the church.
