Gospel work continues despite the ongoing violence and destruction in Afghanistan which last year saw an attack on a university and a maternity hospital
A missionary* just returned from the area writes: ‘Where is God in all this? “How long, LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, ‘Violence!’ but you do not save?” ’
The missionary said: ‘A Christian expat lecturer I knew was trapped in his office under his desk for around seven hours. The attackers roamed from room to room looking to find and kill people who were hiding.’
There are good news stories. ‘The work of the gospel continues, on a small scale. Some have become believers in other countries and return to work in Afghanistan. Others minister from out of the country online. People can have the Bible on their phones which is so much safer for them. There is little visible evidence of Christianity externally, but God is at work and the Lord Jesus Christ is building His kingdom.’
The missionary concludes: ‘Please pray God will raise up people (expats and locals) who feel God is calling them to model Christ by their lives in a difficult situation and to sensitively share about Jesus.’ Afghanistan is second on the persecution index for Christians.
