New Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), German theologian Thomas Schirrmacher, has begun work after being inaugurated.
The WEA was established in 1846 and works in 129 countries. It claims to represent 600 million evangelicals.
Dr Schirrmacher spoke, in his inaugural address, of some key priorities for the WEA, such as upholding the authority of Scripture and spreading the gospel.
He is a Christian moral philosopher, global human-rights activist and has a Chair in Theology. He became a bishop in 2015 at the Church of the New Covenant in Florida, part of the Anglican Mission in America.
