Print, broadcast and online media has been swift to publish new images of the ‘Pillars of Creation’.
These cool, dense clouds of hydrogen gas and dust in the Serpens constellation, some 6,500 light-years from Earth, are now visible in stunning scale, colour and beauty thanks to the new James Webb space observatory, which was launched in 2021.
Dr Gavin Merrifield, General Secretary of Christians in Science, told Evangelicals Now: ‘These beautiful, new images show in fresh glory the famous ‘Pillars of Creation’ in the Eagle nebula. They are just one of many gigantic star and planet factories in our galaxy.
‘To those who wonder where God is at work today, or think he stepped away from being Creator at the moment of the Big Bang, I say LOOK UP! Look up in awe and wonder and see that God continues to do a new thing! God is not distant from His creation, whether that is humanity or the universe itself, but He continues to work in and alongside it’.
