Philippines: Tagalog – a labour of love for the gospel

The Saywell family

Starting is easy, but continuing is hard.

While that may not be true in everything, when it comes to pioneering a new work in a needy area like Bulacan we have started to discover that, although it has been relatively simple to begin a work, it is much more challenging to keep it going when the novelty of those first few months wears off and discouragements arise. That being said, we have been wonderfully blessed to be gathering weekly in three different areas of our town, Santa Maria, with dozens of unbelievers hearing the gospel for the first time, and some seemingly close to conversion.

In addition to these evangelistic groups in the community, Reuben preaches every week at the cells for our local jail ministry, at a construction site for a group of builders, and on the streets, where we regularly hand out hand-written tracts and speak about Jesus to many who have become disillusioned by the false teaching of Catholic and prosperity-gospel churches. Practically speaking, one of the keys to being effective in getting to the hearts of the hearers through these various ministries is to speak Tagalog – the main language of the Philippines. We value your prayers for the many hours of labour that are given to this task.
