A US-based prayer fellowship for ministers is seeking to expand into the British Isles and Europe.
The 6:4 Prayer Fellowship describes itself as ‘a pastor-led, Biblically-based, international and multi-denominational network of pastors rooted in the Biblical paradigm of ministry seen in Acts 6:1-7.
‘6:3+6:4=6:7. To put it in less-mathematical terms, the Fellowship believes that the growth described in Acts 6:7 (“the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith”) comes only when applying the principles of Acts 6:3 (“choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom”) to Acts 6:4 (“give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word”). Simply put, growth comes only when devoted to prayer and Scripture.’
For the past 12 months, Len Crowley (see photo) has been hard at work launching the 6:4 Global Initiative, intended to help the network expand its connections in Africa, Europe, and beyond.
‘Pastors over there have the same problems that we have over here,’ Crowley insists. ‘We’re all on the same mission, and we all have the same struggles.’ In other words, every pastor needs to follow Christ’s example of unceasing prayer and Scripture study, and 6:4 can help them hold to that goal.
In Acts 6:4, Crowley finds a ‘summary/ mandate’ that reminds all ‘of the priority for church leadership,’ no matter the nation or region. ‘As an airplane has two wings in order to fly,’ writes Crowley, ‘so leading Christ’s church demands a single priority with two essential components: prayer and the word of God.’
