The book of Daniel is the inspiration behind international Spanish songwriter and church pastor Marcos Vidal’s new song, which is entitled Nosotros no (We are not).
The subject, Christians standing firm against accusations of hate speech, is highly relevant, he says. ‘We are going to be accused of hate speech and that is where a Christian really has to decide whether he or she wants to pay that price or not’, he says.
The song generated over 100,000 views on YouTube in one week.
Vidal is one of the best known Hispanic Christian musicians. With the great emotion and forcefulness that characterises his music, the singer (who also pastors Iglesia Salem, a large evangelical church in Madrid) remembers the three men [Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego] who were willing to lose their lives to remain faithful to the word of God.
He says: ‘Today we are not crucified, we are not thrown into a fiery furnace, at least in our Western societies. There are places in the world where, yes, Christians risk their lives for taking a stand against what society says. But we are going to be bullied, we are going to be rejected. We are going to be repudiated for being different’.
He adds: ‘We are going to be accused of hate speech, of being different, and that is where a Christian really has to decide whether he or she wants to pay that price or not. Today, in the 21st century, it is important for Christians to know how to say: “Sorry, we will not bow down” ’.
After releasing ten albums he is now one of the most well-known Christian singers in Latin America. Some of his songs have become worship classics in evangelical churches, such as Cara a Cara. He won the Latin Grammy Award for the Best Album of 2016.
