Following President Trump’s establishment of a task force to root out “anti-Christian bias” from government, the United States Veterans Affairs (VA) Department is now calling on staff to report any such incidents.
In an email first reported on by The Guardian, VA Secretary Doug Collins told staff the department would investigate “all instances of anti-Christian bias”, particularly informal policies and procedures hostile to Christian views.
“We have strong concerns that this new task force could be weaponised to enforce a theological conformity that will harm everyone’s religious freedom, including those of Christians,” said Amanda Tyler, executive director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty.
Others, however, see the creation of the task force as an appropriate response to the discrimination they believe Christians experienced under the Biden administration, particularly in relation to the previous government’s treatment of anti-abortion protesters and Christian families in the foster care system.
