I was deeply saddened and alarmed by Karen Soole’s piece entitled ‘What are we to make of Joyce Meyer?’ (en November 2014).
I found her ill-informed article defaming, judgmental and caricaturing Joyce Meyer as off-the-wall with its implication that her ministry is not led by the Holy Spirit or Bible-based, and with sweeping statements and conclusions about the fruit of her ministry. Karen appears to be ignorant of the thousands of believers around the world who have been blessed, healed and built up in Christ through her amazing worshipful conferences.
Imagine a woman who was sexually abused by her father, then leading him to the Lord and caring for him in his old age. Joyce Meyer’s life is a fantastic example to us all. She definitely has laid strong foundations in lives and I know women personally who have been blessed and built up by her teaching with nothing ‘wimpish’ about them. It is quite outrageous even to suggest this. Writing an article like this for the whole nation to read has serious consequences for Karen and your paper. I have observed over the last 40 years that criticism and condemnation of Christian ministries, especially publicly, is not a pathway to blessing.
My wife and I are rejoicing in the Lord’s healing of past hurts and failures with deep mental and emotional stability (and, my goodness, how many believers need this in their lives) as we serve Christ, lead people to the Lord and look forward to his coming and our ultimate home in heaven.
