You are right to highlight on the November en front page the consequence of Extremism Disruption Orders and the serious possibility of the Government using the Charity Commission to remove the trustees of Christian charities. You mentioned schools, but it will also include any church whose pastor, teachers, or trustees are judged extremists for opposing the Cameron-con of ‘so called’ British Values: be they the promotion of Darwinianism, destruction of God’s marriage, godly sexuality, or even our Protestant monarchy.
Think through the consequences of a firm of accountants being put in to administer a church even for a short period. If its pastor is removed, the members cease to attend and give and the accountants pay themselves, it will haemorrhage funds and not survive long.
How Cameron is betraying those who with Churchill thought they were fighting for the ‘survival of Christian civilisation’ (‘Their finest hour’ speech, June 1940). At that time Christianity was also central to our Army’s British Way and Purpose: the war-time and post-war Army education syllabus. Soon after, in 1950, the Conservative and Unionist Manifesto, as commended by Churchill, put ‘Reverence for Christian ethics, self-respect, pride in skill and responsibility, love of home and [traditional] family, devotion to our country and the British Empire and Commonwealth, [that were then] the pillars upon [which Conservatives based their] faith.’ Unlike Cameron, the Conservative Party of that day vowed not to follow ‘a doctrinaire and ill-considered theory, but to enable the British people to lead their traditional way of life.’ How things have changed in little over half a century.
