Lausanne’s legacy

Dear Sir,

Many thanks to Ranald Macaulay for his clear, helpful and important article in the March en.

It is indeed a tragedy that many in conservative evangelical circles are running away from the intellectual challenges of scientific materialism, in order to ‘focus on preaching the gospel’. This ‘Gospel Only’ approach presents Christian faith as only concerned with the ‘spiritual realm’ and hence irrelevant for much of daily life. It privatises faith – pushing it back into a ‘true for you’ box. And so it cuts the root of gospel impact.

Ranald is right to call for prayer for a new Reformation; for a younger generation to be excited that God’s truth is true for all of life and for all people. I for one am thankful for the work that Ranald and others have put into both L’Abri and Christian Heritage, which provide some great resources to help in this task.

Yours faithfully,
