Pray for Scotland

Dear Friends,

Please could I use your letter section to rally Christians throughout the UK to be much in prayer for Scotland in these days. The nation that used to be known as the ‘land of the book’, i.e. the Bible, is now in peril of judgment.

We have a government at Holyrood that is attempting social engineering. They describe the introduction of same sex marriage, so called, as one of their greatest achievements – despite the fact that the majority of Scots expressed their opposition. They are now seeking to implement the iniquitous Named Person scheme that will give the state the power to intrude into family life and undermine parental responsibility – despite the fact that some two-thirds of the Scottish population is not in favour. Also they are bent on redefining another area of life that is a creation issue – gender.

However, just as only the Creator is allowed to define marriage, as he does in Genesis 2.24, so only he has the right to define gender: ‘male and female he created them’ (Genesis 1.27). You will notice, of course, that only two genders are created and identified by God.

The SNP, with the enthusiastic support of the other main parties, is vigorously promoting the LGBTetc. agenda. At a public meeting recently, the leader of the Labour party in Scotland said she wanted to see LGBT issues included in the teaching of every subject at school. That’s not education – that’s indoctrination.

The First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has said: ‘young people should be supported to make informed choices about their gender and sexual identity’. A spokesman for the Scottish Transgender Alliance welcomes this commitment, saying it would mean: ‘… the law recognising that some people have a non-binary gender, that is, they are neither men nor women.’

None of the above, distressing at it is for Christians, is really surprising when you realise that of the five major party leaders in Scotland, two are in same sex relationships and one is openly bi-sexual. I completely respect their right to live in that way if they so choose. However, what they don’t have is the right to force on the rest of their population their minority views. An estimated 1% of Scots profess to be LGBT, so the leaders are very far from being representative of the country as a whole.

We should be weeping before our holy God (Psalm 119.36).
