Science and God

Dear Editor,

Your article on ‘Wonderful Science’ in the November issue should certainly give people who are on the fringes of agnosticism pause for thought. The complexity of the genetic code is a strong indicator of the existence of a higher power in the universe, and should give all of us who are confused or doubting reason to keep an open mind.

However, in contrast to blindly accepting the evolutionary narrative, retreating into the cocoon of Young Earth Creationism would be the wrong way forward. The evidence against a recent creation is simply overwhelming (a good summary can be found online at http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/ Evidence_against_a_recent_creation). If the church wants to portray itself as honest and believable, it should respect the facts of science. Many thanks for your time.
