I was saddened and dismayed to read Youth Minister Ed Drew’s comment and review of David Walliam’s second-bestselling book of 2017, Bad Dad; in the May en.
I am the wife of a retired minister. We served God in a council housing estate for 30 years and I am a mother and grandmother.
Why should a Christian leader of Childrens’ Ministry be highly recommending a book by an author who has an aggressive agenda ?
The argument to read the book with over eights because ‘David Walliam’s books allow our children to hear the voices of society in language they hear all around them’, simply does not match the biblical directives for bringing up children.
I believe strongly that our children will be much better equipped to stand in today’s world, if they read wholesome literature as an effective antidote. Our children are a gift from God, entrusted to us. Let us care, feed and protect them as precious lambs.
‘Whatever is true..noble..right..pure..love-ly and admirable, think about such things’ (Philippians 4.8).
