Dear Editor,
I read your last two pieces in en with interest. One of them (July) I read with sincere gratitude: I think you touched an important nerve when you spoke about the importance of love for the Lord Jesus. Last year we lost an important member of our local congregation, an elderly lady whose prayers always began ‘Dear Lord Jesus’ and ended ‘in Thy precious Name.’ Her example had often rebuked my own indifference.
Your article, however, in which you recommended the Harvard Implicit Association Test (IAT), raised concerns with me, both from a Biblical point of view, and as a professional statistician. The concept of ‘implicit bias’ is far from empirically validated by the IAT. Statisticians have correctly pointed to multiple flaws in its methodology.
