I always appreciate Chris Sinkinson’s regular column. In September’s issue, ‘How can I be a better apologist?’ he recommends doing some philosophy with a good overview of its history and ‘a simple introduction to logic’. I have been a Christian for many years and have done some reading in these areas but recently I have felt a need to go further. Can Chris give a few suggestions of useful books, articles, online videos etc? Thank you.

Thank you, Roger, for your question. It sounds like you are beyond the introductory books but for those who are not I recommend the Oxford Short Introduction books - the one on Logic by Graham Priest is useful. For an overview of the history of philosophy I encourage students to read Sophie’s World, a novel by Jostein Gaarder. It sounds like you may be further down the road in which case I recommend work by Paul Helm and Alvin Plantinga (they counterbalance each other!). You might like to try Richard Tarnas The Passion of the Western Mind for an interesting perspective on philosophy. Best wishes Chris
