David Robertson’s article about the Sabbath and Sunday in the October issue of en is very challenging and encouraging.
When in full-time ministry I was always careful as far as possible to have a full day off. Even now in retirement I still do this, as quite often I am preaching on a Sunday and doing Christian work in the week.
I believe that much of the problem in today’s church concerning Sunday stems from the fact that so many Christians and churches treat Sunday as the world does in the respect of making it the last day of the week instead of the first. Many good Biblical churches produce calendars and notice sheets with Monday being the first day.
The Resurrection was on the first day of the week and the early church (mainly in Acts) speaks of meeting on the first day of the week. Along with this, the Seventh Day Adventists worship on a Saturday, hence their name. So it makes no sense to make Sunday the seventh day.
