I was interested to see the heading ‘Scientists backtrack on Adam and Eve’ in your October issue.
However, on reading the article, it became clear that BioLogos do not believe in the Adam and Eve of Scripture. They believe that ‘humans share common ancestry with the great apes’, and one of their options is that Adam and Eve ‘were part of a larger population with whom their descendants could mate’.
They state on the website: ‘At BioLogos, we are persuaded by the scientific evidence that Homo sapiens evolved, arising about 200,000 years ago and sharing common ancestors with all other life on Earth.’
So, it seems that BioLogos doesn’t really believe that Adam and Eve were the first human couple, supernaturally created by God as the Bible says, and from whom all human beings have descended. It is regrettable that Christians are being misled by such statements, since what the Bible – both Old and New Testaments – clearly teaches about our origins cannot be reconciled with any kind of evolutionary theory.
