Dear Editor,
I just want to say how thrilled I was by the service at St Paul’s to honour the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. I particularly want to commend the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, for his exemplary and hugely challenging message.
To be honest, I hadn’t expected it of him, having read of his views on certain doctrines, but I was taken aback by his obvious joy and passion for the gospel.
In just 11 minutes, he summed up the Christian message while at the same time emphasising that the Queen’s faithfulness was entirely due to her faith in Jesus – that she was a great leader because she followed a great leader. I even felt there was a sense in which her absence from the service allowed the full glory to go to our Saviour who, after all, has done more for our country than anyone.
Stephen finished by challenging millions of viewers to follow the Queen’s example by becoming a disciple of Jesus.
Yours sincerely,
