Dear Editor,
Thank you to Pastor Anon (en Letters November 2022)! I hope his words helped many readers appreciate the harm that can be done by unkind criticism. They prompted me to share this, which I once had to write to myself:
Keep on, weary one,
Tempted one, keep on!
You’re not doing it for ‘the sweet smell of
success’
Or the sweet sound of appreciation
tickling the ear!
You only have one Boss,
One ultimate Director.
He knows why you’re doing it,
And why you’re needed here.
Keep on, weary one,
Lonely, tested one. Keep on!
You’re not a poor abandoned man
Just wishing he was blessed.
You’re not a failing salesperson
Trying… his… best…
Remember who you do it for.
Remember who you do it with.
The One whose eyes are on you now!
The One who went for you
To death!
He was once the weary One.
The tempted, the rejected One.
But He kept on…
He STILL keeps on
Till out of death comes LIFE!
So keep on, weary one!
Take heart, lonely one!
Look to the Holy One
And keep on
Keeping on.
Yours sincerely,
Luther Chaplin Norwich
