We are not all Calvinists

Dear Editor,

I was looking forward to reading David Shepherd’s article having fairly recently come to the conclusion that Calvinism is not Biblical.

David shared his testimony and the story of the social media reaction to a Tim Keller quote given in a sermon at his church.

He did mention how sinful we all are and that we need God’s grace to be saved, and that our loving Father predestines all those who are saved.

However there was no attempt to defend Biblically the doctrine of limited atonement, that Jesus only loved and died for the elect. There was no attempt to defend the definition of total depravity as meaning total inability.

The doctrine that states that one must be regenerated before one can believe the gospel was not defended Biblically.

I think David is assuming we are all Calvinists. The controversy will continue.

Yours sincerely,
Andrew Clayton-Stead Ilkley, West Yorkshire
