I was interested to read in the January 2023 issue of en the article entitled ‘Are evangelicals “people who don’t have questions”?’ by Glen Scrivener.
So far, I have two questions that I have used as the basis of tracts, and I have found them useful for initiating conversations. My objective is to arouse enquiry, without being offensive, but to point to Jesus and to the way of salvation in a clear manner. Sometimes I just make a remark such as ‘Are you interested in a puzzle?’ and most are willing to take up the challenge.
The first question is ‘Why wear wool?’ Here, the seed thought came at a wedding service where I noted that both the bridal party and the guests wore special clothes. Hence, special occasions demand the right costume – e.g. going fishing, a fireman’s uniform, or being invited to a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. So, what about the end of life? What will you wear in God’s presence? This is where the need for Jesus, the Lamb (wool) of God, is imperative.
The second question is ‘Why build lifeboats?’, for I live on Anglesey, where we have several lifeboats, that are expensive to build and to keep. The expense is justifiable because lives are at risk and need saving. And yet, they can only save lives and not souls. Only Jesus can, hence the really needful ‘lifeboat’ is Jesus who beckons us to leave the sinking ship and ‘come aboard’ by transferring from one to the other.
