Dear Editor,

I write in response to the letter from Kevin Hutchens in the September issue of en on the article ‘Tell a Catholic’ in the July issue.

I have studied the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church in depth with an open mind and whatever way you cut their teaching, they teach salvation by faith plus works. This is a perversion of the true gospel which is salvation by faith in the blood of Jesus alone, not of works lest anyone should boast! (Eph. 2:8-9).

The man who truly repents of his sin and receives Jesus into his heart to be his Lord and Saviour is born again and receives a new nature that hates sin and loves Jesus. He will therefore do good works because he is saved! But these good works contribute nothing to his salvation – which is by the blood of Jesus alone – so that He gets all the glory.

Yours sincerely,
Dean McBride London
