Dear Editor,
Please can I urge evangelicals to refrain from ‘naming and shaming’ other evangelicals when they say something they don’t agree with.
I’m not referring to outright heresy. However, recently a well-known and respected evangelical Bible teacher – whom I won’t name – whose ministry has been a blessing to thousands, has been ‘outed’ on social media, together with his photograph, because of a one-off word of advice he gave to someone. There have been calls for him to repent, and he has even been banned from some media platforms.
It would be tragic if someone’s ministry were undermined by judging them for one thing. There is far too much of this on social media, and it needs to stop! It’s a bad witness to the world. People will say: ‘See how these Christians love one another’!
Yours sincerely,
Geoff Chapman
