Dear Editor,
Many students have started university, and the importance of identifying as a Christian on campus by joining a Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship, or similar ministry, cannot be exaggerated.
My parents made lifelong friends in the Oxford and Cambridge Christian Unions, my mother being the last survivor of her particular group of friends and, with the death of Timothy Dudley-Smith, the last of my father’s friendship circle.
I thank God for those of my contemporaries known (Lindsay Brown, Keith Sinclair) and unknown, except to their close Christian friends for 51 years this October. And with a,rticles by John Dunnett and Bill James in recent issues, how many know that they were contemporaries in Sidney Sussex Christian Union, both continuing in their faith and continuing to bless all of us through their ongoing gospel ministry.
Many of us meet when we can, and now have half a century of Christian life and experience for which to praise God and see how He has been with us in all the ups and downs of life. (My late wife Paulette, who died in 2018, and her Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship contemporaries are a glorious testimony to the strength of the gospel and of Christian love and long-term commitment). There is nothing quite like it and it is a gift from God that can be cherished for life. I recommend it heartily!
