From a February book review, [Mud, Bullets and Open Roads, reviewed by Stephen Ayre] on page 28: ‘David also suffered the blow of losing his first wife, Jenny, to cancer, but God is always faithful and provided a second wife, Mary’.
Can someone unpack the theology here for those who are single or widowed? That is, is God very often faithful, or perhaps just sometimes?

Stephen Ayre responds: I apologise that the way I expressed myself has caused offence. I was reflecting the view of the author, who believed that God’s faithfulness was shown to him in that situation by providing him with another wife. Of course, one shouldn’t generalise from one person’s experience and God is always faithful to all believers, whether single or widowed, in all circumstances. See, among many other verses, 2 Thessalonians 3:3 – ‘The Lord is faithful’.
