Dear Editor,
In your recent questionnaire you had a question: “How would you describe your theological outlook?”, listing as specific options “reformed/conservative evangelical; open evangelical; charismatic; catholic or anglo catholic; liberal/progressive”.
I’m writing because it’s important for a journal that calls itself Evangelicals Now (not just Reformed Evangelicals Now!!) to be aware that there are very many of us evangelicals who don’t fit any of these categories! That is, we are strongly evangelical, e.g. on the authority and reliability of Scripture, the priority of evangelism, penal substitution, etc, but for various reasons would definitely not identify as reformed… !
And it’s also a great pity if we let the label “progressive” be captured by the liberals. Particularly as we think of younger demographics. I want to be progressive in the sense of moving joyfully forward in accordance with Scripture!
Yours sincerely, Pete Lowman By email
