Trevor Gribben is the new Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland (PCI), which has more than 500 congregations.
The Tandragee-born 64-year-old is the 13th minister to hold the office of Clerk of the General Assembly since the establishment of the Church in 1840, and is the eighth Clerk and 179th person to serve the Church in its highest office, the last being Dr Sam Hutchinson who was elected in 1997.
Dr Gribben’s theme is “Hope and a Future in Jesus”. He said: “It is taken from the Old Testament book of Jeremiah, where the prophet conveys God’s promise to His people and how the Lord encourages them to seek the peace and prosperity of the city. In relaying God’s word, Jeremiah says, ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.’ .”
