David Court has been named as the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland for 2027, the Commission of Assembly has announced.

Having served as the minister of Christ Church, Edinburgh, after joining the denomination in 2013, Court becomes the first minister to be named Moderator from the cohort which left the Church of Scotland due to its position concerning same-sex marriage. He was ordained in that denomination in 1989 and served in congregations in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Court, who is currently serving as Associate Minister at St Columba’s Free Church in Edinburgh, will take over from Calum Iain MacLeod when his term ends.
