Taught to Serve: the history of Barry and Bryntirion Colleges
By Noel Gibbard
Evangelical Press of Wales. 256 pages. £6.99
ISBN 1 85049 122 4

This little book begins with an account of the beginnings and early years of the Barry School of Evangelism.

Established to train Christian workers for evangelism and service both at home and overseas, it became the centre and springboard for much Gospel ministry. There are numerous insights into the character of college life, and the work of students. Evangelical zeal is evident, along with faith which persevered through times of difficulty and severe financial constraints. In 1950, when John Waite became principal, the teaching was more clearly reformed with a healthy emphasis on biblical languages.
