77 Talks For 20th-Century Kids
By Chris Chesterton
Monarch. 240 pages. £8.99
ISBN 1 85424 388 8

'77 ready-made children's talks.' This sounds like an answer to prayer for those who have to address the young people in our churches and Sunday schools, or for those who take assemblies at school.

Each talk is laid out with its theme, and what you will need, and instructions for the presentation. The talks are grouped together under ten subject headings.

Unfortunately the content of some of the talks prevents me from giving a whole-hearted recommendation. One or two talks have no spiritual application, the 'meaning' is purely moral or sensible. An example of this is the talk on the lottery, which gives odds against winning, rather than any spiritual reason for not gambling. And some of the talks would not be helpful to those with little knowledge of Christ's teaching. But it is still a useful addition to the library. I shall most certainly be using some of the talks myself.
