Juliet Lloyd attends Highfields church in Cardiff, and is a singer/songwriter with a heart for young people. The songs are in a disco-rock genre with lots of synthesiser and convey a wise female viewpoint on the contemporary world.
The first song, Too soon, baby, describes the pressures on adolescents in a sexualised culture to lose their innocence too soon. In I was there, Juliet moves to a ballad about some of the implications of Jesus's humanity, and his love shown for us by his choice to go to the cross. The lyrics of the third track, Don't shut the door on me now, are skilfully put together. They have an interesting reversal as it appears to be the cry to a parent of a child frightened by the dark, but the listener later realises the plea is the other way around.
How many parents lament the loss of communication with their adolescent children whom they no longer understand?
The final song, Every picture of you, from which the CD takes its title, calls for the mercy of God on a suffering world.
The songs get their message across well, and repay mulling over.
