TRAVEL WITH JOHN BUNYAN
By John Pestell
Day One. 128 pages. £9.99
ISBN 1 903087 12 0

This is the first of a 'Travel With' series - guide books with a difference. Attractively presented and printed in an easy-to-carry format, Travel With John Bunyan includes careful instructions for both private and public transport, numerous detailed maps, more than 100 colour photographs - in fact everything to encourage us to venture on the Bunyan trail.

The author, John Pestell, relates Bunyan's life in a spiritually helpful way, with the advantage of first-hand knowledge of his subject. He spent part of his childhood in Bunyan's Elstow cottage, and actually had the unwelcome experience of falling chest-deep into quick-sands near Bunyan's home, the likely original for the Slough of Despond. We are guided to dozens of Bunyan sites, and given detailed background information. These include scenes from Elstow, places where the preacher held his secret congregations spellbound, prison sites and even Snow Hill, Holborn, where the great pilgrim himself crossed the Last River. Suggested locations for the original of places in Pilgrim's Progress, such as the Interpreter's House and Palace Beautiful, are also pictured.
