Well researched and challenging
The comments on the passages are comprehensive, well researched, insightful and informative. I particularly appreciated the occasions when the notes were devotional and included a challenge or a question to make me engage personally with the text of Scripture. I would like this to have occurred more frequently in the book.
Alec suggests that each daily reading will require 20 minutes of careful, prayerful and reverent study of God’s Word. It would be a mistake to try and read the passage as a brief thought for the day. I would suggest that it is a book to be read for morning devotions, allowing time to absorb the weight of the passage and its effect, and to start the day prayer-fully in the light of what you have learned.
As the daily readings are just a taster from each book of the Bible, A Pilgrim’s Treasury should make the reader want to read more and develop a thirst for Scripture as the deep treasury of God’s Word unfolds.
