CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE:
Great Christian truths
By Paul E. Brown
Grace Publications. 126 pages. £5.99
ISBN 978 1 910 137 055

This book is a very helpful, clear and caring approach to issues surrounding marriage.

Starting with marriage in the Old and New Testaments, it goes on to deal with many practical and current issues in our own society: what a valid marriage is (according to the Bible) and other issues such as birth control, divorce, singleness, arranged marriages, and women and marriage.

The final part deals with how Christian marriage should be conducted, followed by short chapters about the wedding and beyond.

With very practical teaching, Paul Brown attempts to help people understand how best to conduct their marriages. A chapter on law, custom and wisdom encourages us to use our minds and apply common sense in giving advice concerning situations outside of the norm. He says pastors and teachers should educate their congregations on issues concerning marriage in the main meetings, and also at specific times for young people or single sex groups.

The target audiences are: the average Christian wanting to know what the Bible says on this subject; pastors giving general counsel on marriage; and youth workers addressing young people as part of a programme of Christian teaching (though an intelligent and sensitive approach would be needed).
