Pink work out

OUR GLORIOUS GOD
The Attributes of God by A.W. Pink with a ten
week Bible study course by Betty Thomas
Evangelical Press. 211 pages. £9.99
ISBN 978 1 783 970 070

Our Glorious God is a book in two halves.

The first section contains the 17 chapters of A.W. Pink’s excellent work, The Attributes of God, about which there is no need to pass comment. The remainder of the book is a series of studies relating to Pink’s chapters written by Betty Thomas, a teacher and writer from Arkansas, USA.

The studies contain material for ten weeks, each week featuring five daily workbook sessions with the reading of the relevant chapter from Pink on the other two days. There are also bonus questions, activities and recommended reading. A helpful Scripture index is found at the back. Written for group use, these studies would also benefit an individual working through them on their own, though they would lose out on the incentive and stimulation of a group situation.

Relevant and comprehensible

Many outside the church might say they believe in God, but describe a rather woolly god of their imagination who makes little difference to their lives. Many inside the church could have difficulty knowing where to begin when explaining who God is to their friends outside. Our Glorious God is a helpful aid to redressing this problem. Some might be surprised to find that theology is so relevant and comprehensible.

The book is not a light read and the prospect of half an hour's personal Bible study every day for ten weeks might seem rather daunting. Given the amount of homework required a fortnightly group meeting might be more realistic. But for those who are prepared to give serious study time to the God they know and would like to know better – this book must be recommended.

Most of us benefit from exercise and Our Glorious God could just be the spiritual workout we need.
