Biblically faithful and musically excellent songs are a brilliant way to help the next generation to grow in the faith.
While there have been several excellent resources available from the US and Australia, very little has been produced here in the UK that consistently serves the church in this way. So I am delighted to see that the songwriters behind This Is Awesome Cutlery are unapologetic about wanting to fill their songs with ‘big Bible truths to help families and churches know Jesus better, love him more and worship him with every part of their lives’.
For the whole family
This curiously named debut album includes 12 upbeat, original songs covering topics as diverse as creation, biblical theology, scripture, salvation, justification, and eschatology. It’s deep doctrine, faithfully communicated in a fun and engaging way for the whole family. There are standout high-energy tracks like ‘God Is Bigger’ and ‘It’s a Light and a Hammer’ which will stick in your head all day long. There are some ‘sillier’ songs like ‘God Made Everything’ and ‘Father, You Are King of Heaven’ which the kids will love to sing along to. The songs are then complemented by a series of short comic sketches designed to reinforce the biblical truths in the lyrics.
Our young family has already loved listening to this album over and over again, which is exactly how it is supposed to be used. You may find a few tracks on here to use at church with kids’ groups, but the real value of these songs is as they help your family know Jesus, love Jesus and live for Jesus.
